The Organization of American Historians, founded in 1907 as the Mississippi Valley Historical Association, is the largest professional organization for the investigation, study and teaching of American History. It serves a membership of 11,000 college and university professors, high school teachers, students, archivists, public historians, and institutional subscribers such as libraries, museums, and history societies, as well as individual and institutional foreign members. Current annual membership rates became effective on July 1, 2007.

  • History Educator Membership: $50
  • Emerita/Emeritus or Retired: $50
  • Associate (not employed as
    a historian)
    : $55 **
  • Contributing Member: $250
  • Regular Membership Categories
  • Income under $20,000: $40
  • Income $20,000 - $29,999: $55
  • Income $30,000 - $39,999: $75
  • Income $40,000 - $49,999: $85
  • Income $50,000 - $59,999: $105
  • Income $60,000 - $69,999: $115
  • Income $70,000 - $79,999: $130
  • Income $80,000 - $99,999: $150
  • Income over $100,000: $190

** Individuals in the student or associate membership categories have a choice of receiving either the Journal of American History or the OAH Magazine of History as their primary print publication.

For individuals living outside the United States, $20 is added for international postage.
